We have some big news to share. Our co-founder, Dr. Jerome Aya-ay, has been elected President of the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, and we could not be more proud.
This is a recognition that speaks for itself. Dr. Aya-ay has spent his career advocating for patients, supporting fellow physicians, and building a healthcare model rooted in real relationships. To see that work honored at the state level is a proud moment for everyone at Palmetto Proactive.
What makes this particularly meaningful is that Dr. Aya-ay is believed to be the first actively practicing Direct Primary Care physician to serve as President of the SCAFP. That is not a small thing. The DPC model has long operated outside the traditional healthcare mainstream, and having one of its practitioners lead the state's family medicine organization reflects how much the conversation has shifted.
South Carolina physicians and patients are paying attention to what DPC makes possible. Dr. Aya-ay's election puts a voice at the table that has been missing for too long.
From the early days of building Palmetto Proactive to shaping what physician-led primary care looks like in the Upstate, Dr. Aya-ay has never lost sight of why any of this matters: the people sitting across from him in the exam room. His leadership has always started there.
We are grateful to be part of an organization he helped build — and even more grateful to watch him carry that same mission to a statewide stage.
Congratulations, Dr. Aya-ay! South Carolina family medicine is in very good hands.
